News

2005/07/13 - We're featured in the August 2005 issue of Linux Journal, on shelves now. The write-up on the PIES project discusses PIES in the prime number and distributed computing context, looks at some of the mathematics involved, and touches on some aspects of development for Linux. Welcome to those of you who've come here after reading the magazine.

Also, a quick guide for testers has been created. This short FAQ covers some practical matters that you might have questions on if you're new to the project.

Important Announcement! (2004/10/06)

Utterly off-topic - yesterday, (2004/01/22) Steve Gough, the Naked Rambler, finished his hike from Lands end to John'o'Groats. (Steve contacted Anna after she carried a story on his n-th arrest in her weird News Clippings, and he came over as an OK kind of guy - certainly a little eccentric, but definitely well-meaning.) Well done, Steve, hearty congratulations. And boo-hiss to those who wasted tax-payers' money harassing him.

2004/01/05 - The results tables have been split into 24576, 49152, and 98304 tables. Feedback appreciated. Note - I no longer maintain these by hand, as that became too much work. If my script goes bonkers, then let me know, please.

Official timings - a 433MHz alpha (July 1996) out-paces a 550MHz P3 (Nov 1999). This explains why I'm proudly alpha powered courtesy of digital corp..

Temporarily - those who can't see the client-server progress page (as you're not registered with the server), here is an hourly snapshot of the client-server reservation state.

For those interested in the client/server setup, there's a yahoogroup where issues can be discussed. In the number-theory section, it's called "pies_project": the yahoogroup.
